Forgive me for being a few days behind on my update. I am sure you will live ;-)
Saturday Mike and I met with our potential DJ at the Starbucks in Oakwood - a place the DJ suggested which was awesome considering we live right around the block from there. His name is Dan Edwards - you may recognize him from the morning news on channel 2. He also has his own DJ business in which he does mostly receptions and sometimes other events.
Right away we were impressed with his resume - he has been in the radio and TV business for 30 years. He is very organized and easy going and has great suggestions for reception possibilities. And we had to give him an upper hand when we found out he lives just a few streets over from us :)
I wouldn't be able to tell you if he is priced right or not - I didnt even interview anyone else to see what else is out there and how much they charge. I just knew that the DJ is an integral part of the reception, and I want someone who will entertain and keep the party going. I went to a wedding a few years ago where Dan was the DJ and thought he was excellent. The person who hired him told me that hiring Dan was the best decision they could have made for their reception. I am sold!
So that's one more thing crossed off our list of things to do for the wedding. Feels nice to have the ball rolling. The next thing on my list? Photographer!!!

Pastor Meeting #2
Mike and I just got back from meeting with the pastor at a church right here in our neighborhood - Lutheran Church of our Savior. We had visited this church last week and fell in love with it immediately. We love the fact that its right here in Oakwood, but the building itself is just beautiful! Huge wooden ceilings, stained glass windows, trees everywhere, and the building is very old and rustic looking.
We sat down with Pastor Gary at 7pm and talked for an hour. He is a little eccentric, but very open minded, down to earth, and easy to talk to. He shared alot of information with us and asked us questions as well. He told us there is a community garage sale being held at the church this coming Saturday - and if you know me, you know I love garage sales! So I will definitely be back for that :)
We have one other church that we MIGHT go take a look at. But honestly, at this point, I am not sure we really need to. I think we are both in agreeance with where we want to become a married couple :)

Pastor Meeting #1
So we went last night to meet with the pastor at Central Christian Church on Smithville Rd. He was just going to squeeze in a quick "hello" with us before another meeting that he had. So we arrived at 6:15pm as agreed, and no one was there. However, the door was unlocked, so we just let ourselves in ;-) The church sanctuary is very pretty. Huge wooden ceilings, beautiful stained glass windows, not too big, it was great.
David Turner is the pastor at the church and he showed up as we were looking around. We had about 10 mins to talk to him before he had to go into a meeting, but that was long enough for us to determine that we liked him. He is very down to earth, nice, outgoing, and lives just a few streets over from us!
All in all, we were very happy with this church so it is right up there in the running! We have a meeting tomorrow night with Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Oakwood. Then we have one more church in Kettering that we want to take a look at before making our decision. If the pastors at those churches are as nice as the guy we met last night, its going to be a harder decision than I thought!
